I am excited to reconnect with you, however, instead of trying to recapture and summarize the theme of this past series on change and transition, I will begin this New Year in a way that hopefully supports us in powerfully fulfilling our vision for 2016.
Let me preface this post by offering an apology for the amount of time that has elapsed since my last post. My recovery from my second knee replacement surgery is coming along well. Even though, it has taken a little longer than I had anticipated, I’m glad to be here now with an expanded vision for 2016 for my blogs. My intention is to include written posts and videos of interviews with people sharing their uplifting stories.
What do you want for 2016 and for your life? Let’s acknowledge that the beginning of each New Year is an artificial yet significant demarcation in time. It’s an opportunity for us to let go of the past and focus on what’s ahead. With that being said, let me ask you, now that we are entering into the month of February are your intentions holding strong. Or, are you experiencing repeated disappointment and frustration from setting goals and six weeks later find that you’ve falling off your intended path?
We are all born with an innate urge to expand, to grow, to live in abundance. This innate urge is God expressing in us. Whether it’s improved health, financial freedom, loving relationships, meaningful career, living more purposefully and abundantly, etc. Whatever it is, the bottom line is, we feel that having “it” will make us happy.
What is your vision for the possibility and empowerment for having “it”? Some of you might remember Flip Wilson, the comedian who back in the ’60s popularized the phrases “The devil made me do it”, and “What you see is what you get.”
Flip, through his characterization of a sassy, outspoken woman named Geraldine, had her jokingly avoid taking responsibility for her outrageous on stage comedic actions by using the phrase, “The devil made me do it.”
There are many people along with Geraldine, who believe that they are powerless and at the effect of their experience, rather then at the cause. However, leading research on human consciousness is validating the long held spiritual belief that our thoughts, words, and emotions vibrate on a scale in the same way that matter does.
What is your underlying belief? I invite you to use your powerful faculty of imagination and Imagine a vertical scale that ranges from low to high. At the lower end, emotions like anger, resentment, sadness, and depression vibrate at slow, and heavy frequencies.
Whereas, at the higher level, emotions like hope, optimism, faith, joy, enthusiasm vibrate at lighter, faster frequencies. I know it’s not lost on you that the more you consciously sustain the higher levels of emotions the more you are empowering yourself to attract and manifest what it is you are envisioning.
When we closely examine Flip’s laughable phrase, “The devil made me do it”, it becomes easy to see that Geraldine’s underlying limiting belief is that life is happening TO her, and not FOR her.
Let me ask you, do you believe that you can’t help your circumstance, situation, and /or recurring unproductive habit patterns that are not serving your highest good? As a result, do you feel stressed and powerless?
Believe it or not, it is not your circumstances that cause you to feel miserable, unhappy and stressed, it is your thoughts about your situation that cause your suffering.
When you believe it you will see it. Flip dressed as a flirty, seductive woman, made Geraldine’s other phrase, “What you see is what you get” also laughable.
Link Geraldine’s threats of punitive action from her invisible boyfriend “Killer” against other men who made perceived advances toward her, was another hilarious scenario.
On a serious note, there is much truth to be gleaned from this phrase. Isn’t it true that what you focus on expands? What you think, imagine, dwell on and speak, attracts to you all things requisite to the fulfillment of your focus. By the harmonious vibrations of the Law Of Attraction, we get what we continuously believe and SEE whether it is what we want or don’t want.
Isn’t this a compelling reason to consciously use your imagination to focus on what you truly want to experience in your life? By doing so, you create a mental mold into which the Universe, may flow in, through, and as you. You can SEE more expansively what’s positively possible. One of Albert Einstein’s famous quotes is, “Imagination is everything. It is the preview of life’s coming attractions.”
Please indulge me as I reframe Geraldine’s invisible boyfriend, “Killer”. When you dwell in the seductive emotions that vibrate at lower frequencies, like sadness, anger, depression hopelessness, etc. —although, they may serve us and provide messages that we want to pay attention to—ask yourself if by dwelling long term in that range of emotions, whether you are actually flirting with emotions that block and may even kill the manifestation of your dreams.
Activating YOUR POWER OF CHOICE. You may rise above the feeling of powerlessness by choosing to release what no longer blesses you, what no longer serves the highest and best of your intentions.
Flip (pun intended) the level of your emotions to the higher emotional vibrations of hope, faith, optimism, enthusiasm, joy, love, gratitude, etc. Connect with and engage the invisible Divine Presence and Power that SURROUNDS you, is IN you working THROUGH you, FOR you and expressing AS YOU.
It is in this energetic field which the mystics teach that our desires can be manifested with more ease and grace. Your spiritual faculties of faith and imagination give you the ability to look beyond appearances and see into the realm of unlimited possibility. Whatever the human limitation seems to be, you know that with God, there is no restriction of potential.
Is it easier said than done when you are in the midst of transition and change? Of course it is. But when you refuse to doubt your own inner power and become willing to let go of what is no longer serving you, you essentially are saying YES to You Evolving Spiritually. The good news is, having a practice of CONSISTENTLY looking for the good, will help you shift how you think, feel and respond in your circumstances more easily. Your vision is even more important in guiding you during times of difficulty.
Holding a vision of your burning desire directs and focuses you. I love the way Vishen Lakhiani of the Mind Valley Academy makes the analogy of flipping (hmmm, I wonder if this is where I got the idea to reference the comedian Flip Wilson?) our thoughts and emotions. In this scenario, instead of focusing on the problem, Vishen says “You’re flipping the problem upside down” and gives the following examples:
“You create a “vision” to work towards something that doesn’t
involve directly solving the problem, instead renders the problem completely irrelevant. At the same time, the vision causes you to aim for something “bigger” than the problem.
“Someone breaks your heart. Yes, it’s painful. But rather than pursue them back (which may be pointless), you set a new vision — to be the ideal man or woman, so you can attract someone even better.
“You get sick and are hospitalized. You set a new vision when you come out to get your body and health into even better shape than before.”
With spiritual vision, we open ourselves to the realization of universal goodness. We understand that the Universe is FOR us. We can see that everything works together for the fulfillment of divine purpose and our highest happiness. The conscious use of this great power attracts to you multiplied resources, intensifies your wisdom, and enables you to make use of advantages which you formerly failed to recognize.
If you are willing to except this as an assignment….for the next 21 days take five minutes in the morning and at night, and imagine your deep desire or goal and hold the feeling of it, as already accomplished. The key is to focus on the feeling of the outcome rather than on how long it is taking for the outcome to occur. Jesus put it this way, “Whatsoever things you desire when you pray, believe that you have them, and you shall receive them.” Mark 11:24
